Carabao Cup Semi-Final 2nd leg
Well at least we are back at Wembley this time to beat Aston Villa for our third successive Carabao Cup! The City performance against United was marred by really poor finishing and too many passing errors. Sterling once again was well below his best - he has not scored this year yet! It was also the first time City have failed to score since the terrible loss at home to Wolves last October. With important games coming up Pep is going to have a lot of work to do to get us back on song. Some City moves were very good but we must learn to get that ball into the back of the opposing net quicker and better! Defending at corner and free kicks must be improved too. We are conceding too many goals in these situations. At least we had a decent number of fans again
City once more made several changes and we had three at the back - Walker, Otamendi and Cancelo,
Walker, De Bruyne and Aguero returned but no Fernandinho.
Woodward and Fergy were among the many visiting fans
City should have scored after just 7 minutes De Gea saving a good header from Aguero
much to the dismay of the City fans
De Gea saves from Mahrez
Another near miss!
City appeal of a penalty for hand ball but nothing given -dear old VAR
Aguero has a shot saved
De Bruyne shoots just wide
Aguero misses the target this time
Otamendi heads wide at a corner
A foul by Otamendi and from the free kick Matic fails to score for United
Sterling breaks but he fails to take advantage of the situation
De Gea is injured saving at a City corner
Sterling has a Pep talk!
Following a free kick the ball runs to unmarked Matic.......
...and he hits it past Bravo first time to give United the lead -disaster!
Shortly after Sterling takes a pass from De Bruyne and scores but the referee has not given it cos......
.....the linesman has flagged and VAR agrees with him - oh dear - and it's soon half time
Cancelo fouls James and from the free kick Maguire heads over the bar
Matic gets a yellow card for a foul on Mahrez
Martial shoots -but it is straight at Bravo
Sterling has a good chance to score but alas he fails to put the ball into the net!
De Gea takes a cross from De Bruyne
De Gea punches a City corner clear
De Gea saves from Walker
Aguero shoots wide
Matic stops a City break by fouling Gundogan and gets a second yellow card and then a red of course
The secret sniper has got Walker
Cancelo passes to Aguero.....
.....and Sergio finds the net but alas the flag is up for offside - oh dear
Our dearest friend VAR confirms it!
United get a free kick - this could be trouble
However Fred's free kick is blocked by the City wall
On comes Stones with minutes to go
Jesus -on for Aguero - is fouled and Wan-Bissaka is booked
a young kid has wandered onto the pitch so Bravo looks after him ......
...before the stewards take him back to the South Stand
The two managers say farewell and City are back down Wembley Way
Bravo 6: Walker 6.5, Otamendi 7, Cancelo 6: Rodrigo 6, Gundogan 6, Mahrez 6 ( Silva) De Bruyne 7 (Stones) Benardo 6, Sterling 5, Aguero 6 (Jesus)
