Capital One Cup Final at Wembley

There is no doubt what so ever who was the hero of this Wembley Final - Willy Caballero no less! Many City supporters myself included hoped that Joe Hart would be between the sticks after Caballero's errors in the game against Chelsea. However Pellegrini is a man of his word and he had promised Willy a place in the Capital One team. To save a penalty is pretty good going but to save three in the penalty shoot-out is simply amazing and I cannot remember any other keeper doing it.
It was not an amazing game with lots of chances but City were the better side and deserved victory. In fact they should have had it sorted much earlier - Aguero should have had a stone wall penalty and Sterling missed a sitter. Though the Liverpool keeper should have saved Fernandinho's goal from a narrow angle he made some brilliant saves to keep Liverpool in the game.
The City defence was again improved with the presence of Vincent Kompany who links well with Otamendi and during the game Caballero had little to do. In front of the back four Fernando did well but up front Sterling missed some chances and was often booed by the Liverpool fans. Silva and Toure had their creative hats on and Aguero was always a danger.
It was a very long day for me leaving home at 7am and getting back at 2am - but worth every second.

A chilly early morning start at the Etihad with some fans needing a bit of a lift. Everybody was well cared for
A stop at a motorway service station for a coffee and scarf!
Are you sure we're not in Palm Springs!
Our first view of the Stadium
We don't see many City supporters en route to the ground
Now we are getting close with plenty of time to spare
Plenty of fans making their way to the match
The TV people are about and there are well known faces to spot
City's statue time and one well known one - Bobby Moore - and one I had not seen before - showing Rugby League legends
Every time I come I see new building going on
One final look down Wembley Way before heading off inside the Stadium
Its early days yet with plenty of empty seats as the players start to warm up
As a police helicopter hovers overhead and Caballero warms up little did we guess what was going to happen
Shawn Goater is interviewed before the game
Time to stand for the national anthem and show your colors
Now its time for the flames, the banners and the teams to appear. City make just one change from the side that played so well in the recent win in the Ukraine - Willy Caballero coming in for Joe Hart in goal
Caballero has to make an early save from a cross
Liverpool clear a City corner
Manuel Pellegrini looks relaxed on the City bench while Jugen Klopp keeps an eye on the linesman
On 23 minutes a shot by Aguero is brilliantly saved by Mignolet
after 32 minutes Sturridge is brought down just outside the area but the free kick goes over everybody's head
2 Liverpool players clash and sustain head injuries ending with Sakho being subbed by Kolo Toure!
Can appeals to the referee
Did Milner foul Otamendi - nothing given
Goalless at the break and time for some City old players to be interviewed
48 minutes and Aguero shoots over
a minute later Aguero passes to Fernandinho who shoots under the keepers body to give City the lead
Sterling is fouled by Clyne who is booked
Mignolet catches the ball at a corner
Kompany heads clear
Aguero is brought down by Clyne in the area but no penalty given - terrible decision by the ref
Silva's free kick goes just over the bar
Mignolet in action yet again
Sterling has a good chance but shoots wide
65 minutes on the clock and Fernandinho is fouled by Moreno who is shown the yellow card
83 minutes and Liverpool score when Coutinho finds the net
City pile on the pressure but saves from the keeper and misses don't help
So it goes to extra time and 2 tired teams have to face another 30 minutes
Aguero has half a chance but the ball flies over the net
City force corners but cannot score
a battle starts between Yaya Toure and Lallana and they both get booked - so does Fernandinho - so that is nine yellows in total - not a world record
Sturridge gets some help from Fernandinho for his cramp and its ends one all and now it's penalty time
Penalty Time
They toss for penalty end and City win
Can scores for Liverpool - one nil to Liverpool
Fernandinho hits the post -
Leiva has his shot wonderfully saved by Caballero
Navas scores to level the scores
Coutinho has a shot saved by Caballero - great stop
Aguero makes no mistake shooting into the corner - City ahead 2-1
Lallana tries to fool Caballero but fails and City need one more to win
Yaya Toure converts the penalty and City have won the Cup.
The players rush to congratulate Wonderful Willy
It's time to celebrate
Well done City - a deserved victory - so now it's a long coach trip home!
