Whilst looking for an old photo I came across this image taken at Old Trafford in the mid 1970's at a match between Lancahsire and Yorkshire. Those were the days when ' proper' cricket was played !

Peter Lever is the fustrated bowler, Close the batsman the near end and Boycott at the other end. Engineer is the wicketkeeper. The image taken on Agfa 50S has lost a lot of its yellow layer , is not too sharp and is not level. One for the bin perhaps - well maybe a few yeares ago. Now there is Photoshop so lets go to work !

There was a little cloning to be done in the top right hand corner to add some sky and I got rid of a TV mast. Finally came the battle to bring back the yellow. Quite a lot was needed with Image/Adjust/Colour Balanceand a few tweeks with Curves.

To bring in some sharpness the Mode was changed to Lab and Unsharp Mask used on the Lightness Channel

First we'll crop the image and go in a little closer to the action and level the image up. In the View Menu you will find 'Show Grid'. You may find the grid is too closely spaced for your needs. If you go to Preferences in the File Menu you can adjust these to your needs. Having selected all the image if you go to Edit / Transform / Rotate you can adjust the image until the horizontal elements match the grid. When you are happy with the result then you can use the Crop Tool to finalise the composition
