City 2 Southampton 1
November 29th 2017 att.53,407
Well that was a tough three points for City. It took a last second goal by Sterling to keep us 8 points in front of the other Manchester team and this was our 12th win on the run - a record. It was well deserved as we had most of the play against a mainly defensive minded Southampton team with their keeper making some good saves. Like the away game at Huddesfield City were a bit below par and with Sane not playing possibly due to injury we often lacked width across the park and many passes just failed to count. We missed several good chances but with the visitors trying to waste time from early in the first half and often having eleven men behind the ball it was a frustrating cold evening for the City fans. Indeed Southampton despite only rarely invading the City penalty area missed a couple of good chances themselves and once again Ederson showed us what a capable keeper he is. But the game will be remembered for the brilliant Sterling goal - he is our top scorer - amazing!
Francis Lee is welcomed on the pitch by
Mike Summerbee and Tony Book for a presentation
There were a few gaps at the start - I think due to traffic conditions
Jesus was in for David Silva and Gundogan for Sane
A few brave souls had traveled from Southampton on this cold night
An early touch by Ederson beats Yoshida
On 13 minutes a shot by Fernandinho goes just wide
A minute later at a corner a header by Hoedt hits the bar
At the other end Forster has to make a good save from Sterling and then save from Jesus
City were having to defend a few corners
Otamendi heads clear
Ederson clears under pressure
Ederson beats Long to the ball
Forster saves from Fernandinho
24 minutes on the clock and first Aguero has a shot saved and Gundogan following up hits the side netting
Oh dear that was a good chance!
The secret sniper has struck again
The ref and Kompany exchange a few words
Kompany heads a corner clear
Ederson saves from Lemina
from the corner a header drops .......
....to Yasheda who shoots over - a near miss!
Oh dear the sniper has got Lamina but Fernandinho is checking his wounds!
Goodness Me ! We have an extra man on the pitch
The players take no notice and he is soon carted off to jail and it's soon half time
City win a free kick on the left wing and De Bruyne whips in the ball which Otamendi goes for........
...and the ball ends up in the back of the net to give City the lead in the first minute of the second half - great stuff!
Kevin gets the praise from the City players and the fans
A shot from Jesus goes just wide
'He went that way! '
A Gundogan shot goes wide
City on a break - this looks promising...
.....Alas Jesus gets in a shot but the keeper saves well yet again
Forster then saves brilliantly from De Bruyne and Aguero has a shot blocked - City just cannot make it two
Another City effort goes wide!
Long gets a yellow card for a foul on Otamendi
Forster saves from Fernandinho
City have to defend for a change
Forster punches away a City corner
On 75 minutes Boufal attacks down the right.....
......he cuts the ball back to Romeu who scores.. Oh dear!
The visiting fans make themselves heard for once but why did the Southampton players celebrate over there!
Sterling fails to cross
Silva is now on for Jesus
Sterling thought he had scored but the goal is disallowed for a foul on the keeper
It is coming to the end of the five minutes added time and it looks like a one all draw but heh Sterling has the ball and he shoots.....
....and the ball flies into the top corner and it's a wonder effort by Sterling and City have won - incredible!
The Stadium erupts -shame on those who left early - the Southampton players are in shock
Pep and company are overjoyed
Even Mendy goes to join in the celebrations with Sterling
While the South Stand tell the visiting fans the score it's a long journey back after losing in the final minute
There are only seconds left after the restart and the great run continues. What a finish!
