FA Cup R4
Despite a damaged corner flag City marched into the next round after a very comfortable win over Burnley. With a league game at Newcastle in a few days time Pep rested several of his key players but the team played very well and De Bruyne was almost back to his top form.
Jesus opened the scoring with an individual effort. It was his 8th goal in five games. Not bad for a reserve striker!! After Burnley missed a sitter early in the second half Benardo made it two nil and then De Bruyne added a third with a cracker from outside the area.He then put in a good cross which was deflected into goal by a defender for the 4th goal and a stupid foul on Silva ended with Aguero scoring from the spot for number five.
Edison did not have a shot to save as Burnley failed to get an effort on target. Stones was the best of the defenders on a wet windy afternoon at the Etihad. Roll on the next round!
Before the game we saw a few of the winning Cup Final players of 1969 when City beat Leicester - I was there - pics HERE
Burnley did not fill the complete top tier but they had quite a few fans present
City made a few changes but did have at least six of the 'first team' playing. What a bench though - Aguero, Sterling, Sane, Silva, Laporte and Foden
Ex player now referee Scott exchanged comments with fans when he stopped play as a corner flag suddenly died
Manager Sean Dyche has the opportunity to get a message across to his players
Was it the secret sniper or Benardo guilty of the damage?
Oh thank god - they have found another corner flag - we do not have to cancel the game!
Oh look who I spotted in the crowd - a visitor from Norway and Salford!
A City effort goes wide
Benardo has a shot saved
Burnley clear a corner
On 17 minutes Pope saves from Danilo
On 23 minutes Danilo passed to Jesus who took the ball to towards the goal line......
.....before cutting inside and shooting past Pope to give City the lead - a great individual effort
It is celebration time for the South Stand and the City players
Pope foils Gundogan
Gundogan's shot goes wide
The Burnley manager looks a bit worried
Pope in action yet again
Just after half time a really bad error by Otamendi let in Vydra but thank goodness he put the ball wide
Shortly after De Bruyne passed to Benardo who shot at goal.....
...where Pope somehow failed to stop it and the ball ended in the back of the net for number two goal
Just what we wanted and the South Stand could cheer despite the weather
Benardo thanks Kevin for the pass and we can relax a bit now
Rain and more rain!
Gibson tries a header at a corner
City eventually manage to clear the corner
De Bruyne attacks down the wing and cracks in a cross......
...which is deflected into his own net by Long
On 61 minutes a good passing movement ends with Kevin De Bruyne shooting past Pope to make it three nil
De Bruyne has a shot blocked
Pope saves from Mahrez
Well that should be game over as the players and fans celebrate
City continue to attack as shots are saved or blocked
Long pulls back Silva and it's a penalty which Aguero ( on for Jesus) takes.....
..and scores to make his total for the season 16
Burnley manage to prevent City from scoring any more and it's soon time to get wet in the rain!
